During the Brazilian presidency, the G20 is carrying out a special motto: “Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet.” As part of a plural, diverse country with authority to address fundamentals, the G20 Social is convened prior to the G20 Summit to analyze and appropriate recommendations from the engagement groups into the Leaders' Declaration.
The Global South faces increasing threats from natural disasters and climate change, with devastating consequences for economies and communities. This high-level workshop, titled "Innovative Strategies for Disaster Resilience: Fortifying Global South Economies Through Dynamic Governance Solutions," will bring together experts, policymakers, and civil society representatives to explore cutting-edge approaches to disaster risk reduction, focusing on early warning systems, resilient infrastructure, and community-based preparedness.
Participants will discuss innovative financing mechanisms to support disaster recovery and reconstruction efforts, ensuring equitable access to resources and long-term sustainability. A key focus will be on strengthening governance systems to enhance disaster response and recovery. The event will delve into best practices for collaborative decision-making, transparent accountability, and inclusive policy development. By fostering dynamic governance solutions, the Global South can build resilience and safeguard its economic development.
This event aims to foster a global dialogue innovative strategies of the global south and will propose pathways for building a more resilient and sustainable future for all. The key questions to be discussed by the participants are:
1. How can effective governance structures be established to proactively address disaster risks, particularly in regions with limited financial resources and institutional capacity and what specific strategies recommended by G20 working group and T20 communique?
2.What innovative financial mechanisms can be implemented to mobilize resources for disaster recovery and reconstruction, especially in the Global South and how can an implementation road map could be built for enhanced insurance solutions, risk transfer mechanisms, and public-private partnerships?
